SPLOST VI Information

  • At its July 9, 2019 meeting, the Paulding County Board of Education unanimously approved a referendum resolution for the renewal of the school district's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST), a five-year one-cent sales tax on local retail purchases.  After the appropriate Call for Special Election, the referendum went before Paulding County voters on Nov. 5, 2019 and passed by a vote of 4,895 to 1,943, or 72%.  Certified election results can be viewed here.  Proceeds from SPLOST can be used only for capital needs and retiring long-term debt, and the linked resolution provides a summary of those needs. Additional information about how school needs were determined and the role that Paulding County stakeholders played in this process is available here: www.paulding.k12.ga.us/planningforthefuture

E-SPLOST is not a new or additional tax. Since 1997, voters have consistently supported the local school system through SPLOST resolutions, approving five E-SPLOST programs (1997, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016). Over the past 22 years, these programs have paid down debt, purchased land, built new schools, equipped hundreds of classrooms, and helped maintain and renovate existing facilities. The E-SPLOST program has helped construct 21 new schools and 16 school additions in Paulding County, along with funding dozens of renovations and classroom additions, and hundreds of critical maintenance projects.
