    What is STEM?

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach these four disciplines as separate subjects, STEM integrates them into cohesive learning based on real-world applications.

    In the Classroom:

    Novel Engineering

Novel Engineering is an integrated approach to teaching Engineering and Literacy in elementary and middle school classrooms.  Students in the Paulding County School District are using this strategy to integrate what they are reading in English Language Arts with math, science, and social studies using the engineering design process.  Click this link for more information about Novel Engineering:  https://www.novelengineering.org/

    Elementary STEM Exploratory Classes

All elementary students are starting to build their background knowledge in STEM/STEAM in their STEM Exploratory classes.  Students are learning learning to code robots, code simple games, and complete Engineering Design Challenges.  They are learning to become innovators using their critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills to solve real-world problems.

    Middle School STEM-related Connections Classes

    Computer Science:

All middle schools in Paulding County offer classes in Computer Science in all grade levels!  Students are learning to code their own websites using Code.org and also coding their own games using the Bloxels platform!

    Engineering and Technology:

Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, all middle schools will offer Engineering and Technology as a Connections Class.  This class will help students to continue to build on the skills learned in their elementary STEM classes.  They will continue to apply the Engineering Design Process to solve complex, real-world problems that are connected to science, technology, engineering, and math.
