Superintendent Paulding County School District
Mr. Steve Barnette became Superintendent of the Paulding County School District in June 2021. He firmly believes that the foundation of exceptional schools and thriving communities lies in the collective expertise of dedicated educators, effective leadership and the active involvement of families and the school community. Mr. Barnette is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of the Paulding County School District, actively working to engage, inspire, and prepare every student for success both today and tomorrow.
He serves as the 23rd superintendent of the school district since 1896, now leading the 11th largest school district in Georgia, with 34 schools and approximately 32,000 students. He is focused on supporting the extraordinary work the district’s approximately 4,000 dedicated professionals, and the responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds.
Before assuming this role, Mr. Barnette served as the Chief Financial Officer and brings an extensive background in public education and business. Prior to his career in education, he held senior leadership positions in several industry-leading technology companies.
Mr. Barnette holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University. He is a graduate of the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia School Superintendent Association’s Superintendent Professional Development Program (SPDP).
Having made Paulding County their home for over 20 years, Mr. Barnette and his family are committed members of the Paulding County community. Beyond his position as Superintendent, he contributes his time, energy and expertise to various organizations, boards, and initiatives. His wife, Tracy, is a career educator and teaches at Burnt Hickory Elementary School. They are the proud parents of five children, with four having gone through the Paulding County School District.
