Newsmap is a great resource out of Japan that has links to articles from all over the world organized by region and topic. The larger the link on the Newsmap, the more popular the article. This is one of the best resources that I know of to quickly find an article for a current event.

Library of Congress
Usually when we think about the Library of Congress, we only think about American history, culture, and heritage. However, the LOC also has a wealth of information for World History and Geography as well. You can find this information by looking under the Topics heading and finding the appropriate subject.

The CIA World Factbook is a great place to go to gather statistical information concerning any country in the world.

Mr. D. Geography
Mr. D. Geography has a lot of great resources that you can use that is inclusive of both physical and human/cultural geography. This website basically contains a full World Geography curriculum complete with PowerPoints, note outlines, and practice quizzes.
