Mr. John Willoughby

Mr. Willoughby teaches U.S. History and World History at South Paulding High School, where he is the Social Studies department chair. Since 2006, he has taught United States History, World History, AP World History, Honors U.S. History, Honors World History, Psychology, Sociology, and Current Events. In 2016, he was awarded Teacher of the Year at South Paulding High School.

Mr. Willoughby has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Psychology from the State University of West Georgia in addition, he also has a Master of Arts in Psychology, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Guidance and Counseling, and holds certifications in Behavior Disorders, Social Studies, Leadership and Supervision, and Gifted instruction.

He and his wife, Penny, have two sons: David, a SPHS graduate currently enrolled in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Ian, also a SPHS graduate starting his freshman year at Georgia State University in August 2019. 

He is an avid outdoorsman, gardener, boxing fan, and is an Eighth-degree black belt in Kung Soo Do Karate and a 1st degree black belt in Beikoku Jiu-Jitsu. John and Penny have three dogs: Charlie, Leon and Elizabeth.
