Myth, comparison, contrast, theme, main idea
Monday & Tuesday: Read the "Myth of Pandora" and "Issue Overview: Vaccines". Complete milestones practice questions on the paired texts includeing a constructed response requiring a contrast of the myth and the non-fiction article.
Wednesday: Grammar review notes and practice exercises on identifying clauses.
Thursday: Milestones prep quiz.
Friday: Socratic circle discussion comparing and contrasting Zeus as portrayed in "Pandoa's Box" and "Persephone and Hades".

Week of March 19th

Monday: Computer Lab - Final drafts of informative essays on the Hatchet writing prompt. This can be found on in Canvas under "Hatchet Extended Writing Task". Final drafts are due at the end of class on Monday.
Tuesday & Wednesday: Timed Writing Activity - Extended Writing Prompt #2 - This will be on an article that the students have not read in class, so that it will be nearer to the Milestones format.
Thursday: Introduction to Greek Myths - Myths, Folktales, Legends, and Fables anchor chart. We will read the myth "Arachne the Spinner" and the poem "Arrogance of Man" and compare them in a Milestones prep format. This will be Milestones Practice activity and will not result in a formal grade.
Friday: Weekly Quiz - THe students will compare a short story and poem in as we have practiced this week. This will be a formative grade with a constructed response question.

Week of March 12th
Posted by Robert Niklasson on 3/13/2018Academic Vocabulary: Plot elements (Exposition, Rising, Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution); Conflict, Characterization, Theme.
Claim, introduction, textual evidence, cite, quote, summarize. These are review terms for writing and extended response.
Monday: The class will review for Wednesday's test by playing the Jeopardy review game "Hatchet" Jeopardy
Tuesday: The class will go to the media center and then analyze the writing prompt for a timed essay on Hatchet (Students can earn 5 bonus points on Wednesday's test by completeing "Hatchet Quiz 3.5" on my canvas page.)
Wednesday: Unit test over Hatchet & begin the timed essay. (writing prompt (Advanced))
Thursday: The class will plan and draft their informative essays.
Friday: The class will go to the computer lab to write their essays on computers. (Essays will be due 3/19 at the end of class)

Week of March 5th
Posted by Robert Niklasson on 3/7/2018Academic vocabulary: Theme, indirect characterization and direct characterization, flat character and round character, dynamic character and static character
Monday: Students will complete the visualization activity from Friday (Students will have the opportunity to recover missing grades during this activity as well). They will create a life size poster of Brian based on evidence from the text. THey will include quotes and paraphrases of the textual evidence they used to visualize Brian.
Tuesday: The students will participate in a Socratic circle discussion of Brian's experiences and the lessons the learned from them (themes of Hatchet) before chapter 17.
Wednesday: Students will read chapter 18 of Hatchet and create a bubble map of character traits found in the novel.
Thursday: Students will read chapter 19 & the epilogue of Hatchet and complete the plot diagram for the story.
Friday: The students will participate in a Socratic circle discussion of Brian's experiences and the lessons the learned from them (themes of Hatchet) final discussion after finishing the novel. (Journal set #6 is due on Friday)
