A LETTER FROM MRS. WILSON
Seeing as though I will be spending a lot of time with your child this year, I thought I would share a bit about myself. My name is Jennifer Wilson, and I am 39 years old. I am originally from a little town south of Buffalo, NY. (My hometown, Gowanda, had a population of more cows than people.) I have three boys of my own. Benny is 2 years old; Carter is fourteen years old and starting high school; and Jordan is seventeen years old and getting ready to finish up high school his senior year! With that being said, I do understand the concerns of parents, and I would never expect anything out of my students that I wouldn’t expect out of my own children. My students are treated like family in my classroom as well as their parents. I do feel that children need both their teachers and their parents working together in order to succeed and reach their highest goals. Setting goals is a big part of my classroom. Reaching them is even a larger part.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and soon after received my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education through the state of Georgia. I acquired my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through NOVA Southeastern University on 2008. I was blessed to have the opportunity to participate in an incredible four year grant of Teaching American History (TAH) due to my love of U.S. history.
I moved down to Georgia in 2002 where I began teaching at Northside Elementary in the second grade for three years. I then transferred to P.B. Ritch Elementary teaching third grade for three years. In 2008, my heart found its home here at Hiram Elementary School in the fourth grade. This will be my 16th year of teaching. I received the honor of Teacher of the Year as well as the position of the team leader since I began here. I currently teach Social Studies, Science, and Math to both my homeroom and Mrs. Walton’s homeroom classes.
I am a very involved teacher, and try to make learning fun and exciting. It is a mission for me to find what each student in my class needs to succeed. I never give up and try every possible way to reach each student. I make sure I spend individual time with each student as much as possible, and I regularly monitor each student’s progress. My favorite statement is “No two flowers bloom exactly the same way,” and I truly believe that this also relates to students. You will soon see that I am a very caring teacher with a lot of patience, motivation, and structure. I am here not only to teach, but to guide and help each student see what they are truly capable of. J
