My name is April Leachman. This is my 27th year of teaching middle school but my 3rd year at SPMS. I am excited about being a part of the South Paulding Middle School family. I live in Dallas with my husband Mark and my 22-year-old son, Daniel. We are a family of nerds who enjoy Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, and of course Superheroes.
I love teaching! I am a lifelong learner and I seek out opportunities to challenge my students and to stay up to date on the latest trends in education. I try to incorporate technology, simulations and real-life science opportunities into my class. Last year I was chosen as Teacher Liaison for the Space Foundation Discovery Center. I am a proud member of the Space Station Explorers Program. I participated in NASA's 2012 Atmospheric Science Summer Research Project. Last summer I attended the NASA Mars Habitability Symposium and the Paulding County Summer STEM program. Labs and activities are an important part of learning Science. Last year I attended the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy. I hope to channel some of the amazing experiences I had in my classroom. I integrate technology and real-life Science opportunities in my classroom when I can. I try to make learning fun but challenging.
I hope to help my students develop the skills they will need to be independent thinkers and successful citizens. I want my students to think like scientists and to love Science as much as I do!
