Title I Program

  • Title I is a part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). This act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to school districts and public schools with high numbers or percentages of poverty to help ensure that all children meet academic achievement standards.
School districts target the Title I funds they receive to public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families.
The Title I program’s focus is on improving student achievement and supporting parental involvement.  In Paulding County, Title I schools employ Title I Instructional Lead Teachers and Title I Teachers to support teaching, learning, and parent involvement through supplemental reading, language arts, and math instruction, professional learning for teachers, parent involvement opportunities, and parent resource centers.

At Baggett Elementary School, one Title I Instructional Lead Teacher and three Title I funded teachers serve to support learning in targeted classrooms and support parent involvement. A Parent Involvement Committee has been formed. We meet throughout the year to discuss and plan ways that Baggett staff and parents can support all learners. Parent workshops are held throughout the school year to offer information and activity ideas to support student learning at home. A parent resource center has been created to offer a place for parents to come and study, work together with other parents, and to find information, games, activities, and manipulatives to use at home to improve student learning. A monthly newsletter is provided for parents in English. The newsletter will also be provided through a link on our school website. Parent surveys are ongoing to ensure that we are providing the greatest opportunities for parents and students in our community. All of these opportunities are possible through the Federal Title I program.
