How many students can participate in the program?
Any student in grades 9-12 enrolled in one of the five PCSD high schools can attend PCCA. However, the classes do have limits on the number of students that can be enrolled at one time. Homeschool and Private School students, who reside in Paulding County, are also eligible to attend PCCA when space is available.
Will transportation be provided?
Yes, transportation is provided for all PCSD students participating in the PCCA program. Buses will transport students from their home high school to PCCA and backfor each session. Students who can provide their own transportation to and from the PCCA campus are welcome to drive. Students who drive to PCCA will be required to complete a parking application and pay a $10 per year parking fee. Students can also be dropped off and picked up from the New Hope Education Center campus by parents/guardians.
Can students also be in the dual enrollment program?
Yes, students can, and are encouraged to, participate in Dual Enrollment opportunities. Several classes at PCCA are offered as Dual Enrollment. Students must meet Post-Secondary partner requirements to be eligible for the post-secondary credit.
Can students participate in all activities at their home school?
Yes, in fact it is encouraged. Students who participate in PCCA are considered full members of their districted school and may participate in all clubs, sports, proms, and special events at the districted school. Please note that students maintain the eligibility at the districted school while enrolled at PCCA. For example, a student that is districted for Hiram High School cannot play for East Paulding High School. The student must play for Hiram High School. Student eligibility remains as it was when the student enters PCCA.
Do students maintain athletic eligibility?
Yes, all eligibility remains intact.
How do students enroll?
To enroll at PCCA, students just need to fill out the application on the PCCA website https://www.paulding.k12.ga.us/Domain/5929 There are no requirements that students need to meet to attend PCCA. It just needs to fit in with their graduation plan and fit within their class schedule.
Can students apply after the school year begins?
Students are not able to apply to attend PCCA after the first 10 days of the semester.
Can students withdraw from PCCA and return to their districted school?
Per PCSD policy, students can transfer out of a course at PCCA within the first 10 days of the semester. After this time, they will be required to complete the course in which they are enrolled. Students may transfer at the beginning or at the end of any semester.
At what point are students committed to attending PCCA and cannot return to their districted school?
Students are permitted to return to their districted school within the first 10 days in the PCCA program.
Can students take classes at both PCCA and the districted school?
Yes, students will take classes both at PCCA and their districted school. Students will attend PCCA during either a morning or afternoon session and take two classes while on the PCCA campus. They will take the remaining two classes while they are at their home school.
Will students be able to take classes in addition to the CTAE/Pathway courses while at PCCA?
Yes, students can choose to take two pathways while they are at PCCA or they can take core classes online through the Paulding Virtual Academy.
What grade levels does the PCCA program serve?
PCCA serves 9th – 12th grade students enrolled in the Paulding County School District.
Are the courses NCAA approved regarding athletic scholarships?
Yes.
What are the deadlines and timetables for applying to the PCCA?
Students should fill out the PCCA application on the school website during the semester before they wish to attend. They should also contact their counselor to make them aware that they would like PCCA to be included in their schedule for the next semester.
Will there be full time highly qualified staff to assist the students?
Yes, PCCA instructors are industry experts who will be working with members of their Industry Advisory Boards to ensure that curriculum will prepare students for employment in these areas.
How often must the students physically attend PCCA?
Students will attend PCCA everyday that they attend their home high school.
