PCSD Homeless Program Gets $20,000 Boost
Paulding County School District Title I Director Teresa Benefield and Homeless Education Liaison Dyan Earnhart were named winners of a $20,000 Golden Grant from McDonald's.
According to the grant application submitted on behalf of the district's HELP (Homeless Education Liaison Program), the money will be used to help provide better services for homeless students, including transportation, backpacks, food and school supplies, tutoring services, and payment of student fees such as costs associated with graduation and extracurricular activities.
The ceremony at the state Capitol was attended by Gov. Brian Kemp and state Sen. Mike Dugan. Newton County received a $10,000 Golden Grant award and was recognized at the same time. Other school districts received smaller awards as part of the McDonald's Golden Grant program.
