The Paulding County High School JROTC led off the May 14, 2019 Board of Education meeting with the presentation of colors.

Governor's Honors

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a four-week residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. This year, more than 3,200 students were nominated to the state level competition and nearly 1,600 of them competed in the state interviews for the opportunity to attend the 2019 GHP at Berry College June 16 – July 13.

CTAE

Many PCSD students in the Career Technical Agricultural Education program compete at the regional and state level. Those students are recognized at the Awards nights at their high schools. Students recognized at the board meeting either have already represented or are about to represent at National Competitions. This is a huge endeavor and showcases the caliber of CTAE programs in Paulding County.

Winter Sports

WRESTLING

Heaven Byrd, Hiram High School

  • Heaven Byrd is a Junior at Hiram High School. She is the 166-pound GHSA State Champion. Heaven compiled a record of 26-4 and is undefeated against female opponents. She ended her season by pinning her opponent in the State Finals in 8 seconds. She is currently ranked number 15 in the country at the 164-pound weight class by USA Wrestling.  She was also named to the West Georgia Scholastic Sports Pound for Pound Women’s Team. Her coach is Ben Mount.

Stacey Pgouda, Hiram High School

  • Stacey Pgouda is a Junior at Hiram High School. She is the 176-pound GHSA Girls State Champion. Stacey went 37-6 on the season with her six loses coming to varsity boys competitors. During the GHSA State Tournament, she did not surrender any scores to her opponents on her way to the championship. Stacey is currently the number 5 ranked wrestler in the country at the 200-pound weight class by USA Wrestling. She was named the Female Wrestler of the Year by West Georgia Scholastic Sports.

KJ Haney, Hiram High School

  • KJ Haney is a Junior at Hiram High School. KJ is the 225-pound GHSA Girls State Champion. She finished her season with a record of 32-5 with the 5 loses coming in varsity boys competitions. KJ won the Jackson County Invitational, the Hiram Girls Classic, and the Alexader Girls Invitational on her way to winning her state title. She recently won the Gotham City Open, a tournament hosted by Beat the Streets in New York City. KJ was also named to the pound for pound Women’s Team by West Georgia Scholastic Sports.

Jacob Seymour, South Paulding High School

  • Jacob is a 113-lb Freshman and his coach is Michael Kositzke. Jacob is the 2019 State Champion, the 2019 Sectional Champion, the 2019 Area Champion, and holds the 2018-2019 Season Record at 64-3.

Austin Seymour, South Paulding High School

  • Austin is a 170-pound Junior and his coach is Michael Kositzke. Austin is the 2019 State Champion, the 2018 State Runner Up, 2017 5th Place, and 3X Area Champion and 2X Sectional Champion. His 2018-2019 Season Record is 65-2. His Career Record is 161-25, and he went 3-2 at Nationals.

BASKETBALL

Imani Smith, Hiram High School

  • Imani is a sophomore and has been the starting point guard on the varsity team at Hiram for the past two years. She averaged 14pts., 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4.2 assists this season. Imani was also named 2nd Team-All Region. She was also selected as the Paulding County Newcomer of the Year and 2nd Team All Region last season.

Jacob Harris, North Paulding High School

  • Jacob is the Paulding County Player of the Year, All-Region First Team, and his 516 points were the most by a player this year. Jacob led his team to 20 wins, Region Runner Up Regular Season, Region Runner Up in Region Tournament, and the State Playoffs.

SWIMMING

Kina Crowe, East Paulding High School

  • Kina is graduating this year as the first female four-year swimmer. She’s leaving our program with three school records to her name (200 Free, 500 Free, and as a part of the 400 Free Relay).  She has been recognized as our girls’ team MVP last season and, for the second time in her four years was recognized by her teammates as the Raider Award Winner. She also spent the last 3 years serving as a team captain. Kina was nominated for Positive Athlete all 4 years and is Recognized as an Otter’s Chicken Player of the Week this season.

Logan Peak, North Paulding High School

  • Logan is the definition of a team player. Not only is he constantly at the pool side for NPHS swimmers, he is also there cheering on other PCSD swim teams. He's the current 50 Free Record holder in Paulding County, which he earned at state by beating a record held by a state champ, and he's qualified for multiple individual state events (as a non-year-round swimmer).

ELEMENTARY ART

The second installation of the Elementary Art show for the Central Office gallery, recognized artists from the following elementary schools:  Nebo, New Georgia, Northside, Panter, Poole, Ragsdale, Roberts, Russom, Shelton, and Union.
