Character in Action
Each month the district recognizes students throughout the district who have exhibited positive character traits in and out of the classroom. Students are chosen by the faculty, students, and/or administration from their schools.
This month, students were recognized from Baggett Elementary, Hiram Elementary, Panter Elementary, Austin Middle, Dobbins Middle, and Hiram High as award recipients for the character trait of Courtesy. These students are excellent examples of Courtesy which was the Character Education trait for the month of August.
Braxton Cheek, a 2nd Grader at Baggett Elementary School, shows courtesy towards other students and staff each day. He is always helpful and respectful, showing courtesy in everything he does and says. His administration says, “we are very lucky to have Braxtin as a member of our school community and consider him to be an inspiration”
Destin McKissak, a 4th Grader at Hiram Elementary School, was nominated by the kindergarten team at Hiram Elementary. The Kindergarten teachers stated that at bus dismissal, Destin always has a smile on his face and is courteous! Even though Destin was not in kindergarten, he is always so positive and is a ray of sunshine. We look forward to seeing his positive energy each afternoon. A teacher on another team also stated that Destin is very genuine and always offering to help...all while having a big smile on his face!
Olivia Cobb, a 3rd Grader at Panter Elementary School, is always willing to help others, tells others good job when they accomplish goals, and sets a great example of how we should treat one another. We are so proud to be able to nominate Olivia for courtesy.
Erin Stubbs, a 7th Grader at Austin Middle School, is being recognized by her school’s administration. Even though it's early in the year, Erin has stood out above the rest - constantly smiling, helping others, saying "please" and "thank you", and ultimately, demonstrating courtesy. She is an amazing student and a role model to all.
Molly Ames, an 8th Grader at Dobbins Middle School, exemplifies the character trait of courtesy each day. She is always respectful to every adult she encounters. She is also kind to students in our building. It is not unusual for her to volunteer to help her teachers or peers. She always responds with a “yes ma’am or no ma’am”—a southern trait that is sometimes lost these days. Molly makes every day a bright day at Dobbins Middle School. She is the perfect representative of Courtesy for our school.
Timothy Jenkins, an 11th Grader at Hiram High School, demonstrates courtesy every day in his class. He always begins with a “Good morning” to his teachers and is always quick with a “thank you”. He is polite and helpful to other students and always ends class by telling his teachers to “Have a good day.”
