I have taken the RESA substitute training before. Do I need to retake the course?
RESA Substitute Training must be completed within five years of applying.
I have a Georgia teaching certificate or a paraprofessional certificate. Do I need to take the RESA course?
No. Applicants with a valid Georgia teaching certificate or Georgia paraprofessional certificate are exempt from the RESA training requirement.
I have an out of state teaching certificate. Do I still need to take the RESA?
Yes. You must hold a Georgia teaching certificate or a Georgia paraprofessional certificate to be exempt from the RESA training requirement.
I have taken a GACE exam but do not have my Georgia teaching certificate. Do I still have to take the RESA training course?
Yes. You must hold a Georgia teaching certificate or a Georgia paraprofessional certificate to be exempt from taking the RESA training course.
I am a former employee or substitute teacher. Do I need to apply again?
Yes. You must submit a new application and complete all hiring steps, including fingerprinting, if selected for employment.
Are professional references necessary?
Yes. You must provide three professional references. Professional references are individuals who can speak to your work ethic, skills, and qualifications, typically previous employers or supervisors.
What if I have been a stay-at-home parent and do not have prior work experience?
You may list individuals who can speak to your character, such as a member of clergy or someone for whom you have volunteered, for example PTA or community organizations.
Is the RESA Substitute Training Course the same as the required Substitute Orientation?
No. The RESA Substitute Training Course is required to apply to become a substitute teacher. The PCSD Substitute Orientation is mandatory after you are hired and must be completed to begin working as a substitute teacher.
I am a former employee or substitute. Do I need to attend the PCSD Substitute Teacher Orientation?
Yes. This orientation is mandatory for anyone who will be working as a substitute or supply teacher.
I have applied, been hired, completed my onboarding paperwork, but have not heard anything about fingerprints. What should I do?
Please refer to your onboarding email, which includes all instructions for Steps 1 through 4. Fingerprinting is Step 3 in that process.
I have applied. Why have I not been hired or heard anything?
We receive many applications, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee employment. Selection is based on district needs and applicant eligibility. Applicants who move forward in the hiring process will be notified.
