Remedial Education Program

Remedial Education Program (REP)

The Remedial Education Program (REP) is a state-funded instructional support program designed to help students in grades 6–12 who need additional assistance in reading, writing, or mathematics to meet grade-level standards.

The goal of REP is to provide targeted, evidence-based instruction that addresses specific areas of academic need, helping students gain the skills necessary for success in middle and high school coursework.

Program Overview

REP provides:

  • Focused, small-group or individualized instruction to support mastery of essential literacy and math skills.

  • Evidence-based interventions aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence.

  • Regular progress monitoring to measure growth and adjust instruction based on student needs.

  • Collaborative support between REP teachers, classroom teachers, and families to reinforce learning.

The program is designed to be flexible and responsive, allowing students to receive support only as long as it is needed. Once a student demonstrates consistent success at or above grade level, they may exit the program.

How Students Qualify

Students may be recommended for REP based on:

  • Performance on state or national assessments (such as Georgia Milestones)

  • Classroom performance and formative assessments

  • Teacher input and school-based data review teams

Schools use multiple data sources to determine eligibility and ensure appropriate instructional placement.

Family Partnership

Parents and guardians are important partners in the success of REP. Families are encouraged to:

  • Review progress updates shared by teachers.

  • Support learning at home with reading, writing, and math practice.

  • Communicate with school staff about questions or concerns regarding their child’s academic growth.
