Overview

The Paulding County School District’s Gifted and Advanced Programs are designed to challenge, engage, and inspire students who demonstrate exceptional academic and intellectual abilities. Through rigorous and differentiated learning experiences, these programs cultivate curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking—helping students reach their fullest potential.

The vision of the Gifted Program is to provide a rigorous, challenging, and diverse curriculum for all gifted students. The program ensures equity and access to advanced learning opportunities that extend and enrich the curriculum through diversity in content, process, product, and learning environment.


Program Purpose

Paulding County School District provides services for identified gifted students at all grade levels. The program is designed to meet the specific needs of gifted learners and extend their competencies beyond the regular classroom experience.

Instruction within the gifted program focuses on developing and enhancing skills in the following areas:

  • Cognitive development and complex reasoning

  • Collaboration and leadership

  • Problem solving and innovation

  • Creativity and divergent thinking

  • Research and reference skills

  • Effective communication and presentation

Gifted education in Paulding County aligns with the Georgia Department of Education Rule 160-4-2-.38, which governs the identification, eligibility, and placement of gifted students in Georgia schools.


Identification and Eligibility

Students may be referred for gifted education services by teachers, parents, or other individuals who have knowledge of the student’s abilities. The identification process is conducted in accordance with state guidelines and includes a comprehensive review of multiple criteria such as:

  • Mental ability

  • Achievement

  • Creativity

  • Motivation

This ensures that placement decisions are equitable, data-informed, and aligned with the state’s standards for gifted education.


Goals of the Gifted Program

The goals of the Paulding County Gifted Program are to help students develop advanced academic and personal competencies that will serve them throughout their education and life. Specifically, the program aims to:

  1. Develop advanced research skills and methods to promote independent inquiry and scholarly thinking.

  2. Encourage creative thinking and problem-solving with exposure to a variety of complex and abstract topics.

  3. Strengthen critical thinking and logical reasoning within and across academic disciplines.

  4. Enhance advanced communication skills, including writing, speaking, and presentation.

  5. Foster self-awareness and understanding of individual strengths, and how unique characteristics influence collaboration and interactions with others.


Program Delivery

Gifted and advanced learning opportunities are provided through a range of instructional models designed to challenge students while supporting their unique learning profiles. Depending on grade level and individual needs, services may include:

  • Resource classes for targeted enrichment and advanced study

  • Cluster and collaborative models within general education classrooms

  • Advanced content courses in core academic areas

  • Acceleration opportunities for students demonstrating readiness for higher-level coursework

Each service model promotes depth, complexity, and creativity while maintaining alignment with Georgia Standards of Excellence and district curriculum expectations.
