    2022 March Meetings:

March: All Pro Dads - TBA

March 8, 2022 | Read Aloud Parent Workshop (K-2) - Work Attention Hutchens K-2 Parents,

Hutchens Elementary has teamed up with Get Paulding Reading to bring your family a literacy opportunity to learn more about appropriate read aloud for Kindergarten to Second Grade students and to begin building your own at-home library!

How often should I read aloud with my child? What books are recommended for elementary school children? These questions and many more will be answered during this read-aloud parent training. This parent training focuses on the benefits of reading aloud with your child(ren). We will discuss the impact read-alouds have on vocabulary development and academic success, as well as strategies to make reading fun and meaningful for the entire family.

For every family that participates, you will receive a free bag of all the books (9) discussed in the parent training. These titles include: The Witched Stone, Owl Moon, Next Time You See the Moon, Round Trip and Down, Chicken Sunday, Strega Nona, The Ocean, and Frindle.

Please join us virtually via Zoom on March 8th at 6:30PM. The session will last approximately 30-45 minutes. You will need to RSVP to Jessica Johnson, at JNJohnson@paulding.k12.ga.us in order to receive the link. This will help to ensure we have enough book bags for all families who participate.

    2022 February Meetings:

February: All Pro Dads - Work together as a family to prepare hot chocolate! Have your child determine the number of cups and spoons needed and count them out. Help them measure the milk or water needed and the hot chocolate powder. An adult should boil the water or milk. As the water or milk comes to a boil, talk about the science that is happening.

    2022 January Meetings:

January: All Pro Dads - The activity for the month of January is “Family Camp-In Night.” Since the weather is a little blustery outside, have a camp-in, rather than a campout! Help your kids build a blanket fort in the living room. You can give them a budget and take them to the store to purchase some of their favorite snacks. Help them estimate how much they will need to purchase their snacks, so they will know if they must make a different decision on what to buy. Or, let them find a recipe for a snack they would like to make. They can measure out the ingredients needed. While chomping down on their favorite snacks, watch their favorite movie, read a book, or do a scavenger hunt with them.

Find a night to relax and enjoy a little family fun at home! Choose some fun games you grew up with to play as a family, such as Monopoly, chess, checkers, Mousetrap, Uno, Pictionary, charades, etc. To add to the excitement, let your child(ren) choose their favorite snack foods to make a family snack tray for the night. 2021 November Meetings:

November: All Pro Dads -  The activity for the month of November is “Fall Festival Fun .” One of our favorite things about fall is local festivals. Choose some fun festival activities you remember from your childhood, such as sack races, a game of kickball, apple bobbing, and obstacle courses. Let your children choose their favorite activities, as well. Set up a family festival event in your own backyard. Include a snack stand. You can turn this into a family competition with family members that visit for upcoming holidays. The most important thing to remember is to have fun!

    2021 October Meetings:

    October 28, 2021 |Trail of Treats

Our wonderful PTA did an outstanding job bring staff, students, and families together again for a fun Fall activity. Teachers, parents, and other staff members created booths with games and activities for families to enjoy. We supported local businesses as they helped to ensure families were fed, and plenty of coffee was served for the parents. Title I to provided handouts with an Overview of K-5 Curriculum and Assessments, a Parent Resource Brochure, and a Parent Letter for Education Galaxy. The opportunity to meet together again in a community building environment was much needed and highly praised. We've included the packet that was handed out and a feedback form for families to complete.

October: All Pro Dads -The activity for the month of October is “Family Art Museum.” Spend some quality time with your children creating a family art display. Help your child choose a few favorite pictures from a trip, grab a few items sitting around in the house, or take some pictures of pets or things in the yard. Join your children in drawing and coloring or painting a picture of the items gathered or items in the photographs. Set up an art display and tie in some math or writing activities, such as describing shapes in the pictures or have your children write a description of their artwork. To challenge your child, you can assist them in taking pictures of various architecture on an outing, such as a trip to a downtown area, where they can photograph tops of buildings, doors, windows, etc. to paint or draw. Be creative in your family art display adventure. You can tie in technology by assisting your children in searching for online children’s art museums or helping them use a program, such as Microsoft Word, where they can use shapes to create a picture.
